01/10/2022

BASF Automotive Refinish UK & Ireland has been shortlisted for the prestigious British CoatingsFederation (BCF) Sustainable Innovation –Manufacturer Award 2022 with “R-M AGILIS – the New Standard in Sustainable Vehicle Refinish is Here”.

The BCF recognises that many of its members are already making contributions to sustainability inways that are not necessarily or easily recognised and is keen to raise the awareness of the industry, its customers, and the public of the significance of these developments. It is hoped that this award will make a significant impact on the Coatings industry and the way in which the industry is seen by others.

“Despite yet another difficult year for the sector, the BCF have received high-quality entries from a wide variety of members and are proud to see so many achievements in challenging times.” announced the BCF.

Each year, entries are invited from BCF Full and Associate Members across all industry sectors served by the BCF (e.g., decorative paints, industrial paints, powder coatings, printing inks, wallcoverings, and automotive refinish). Each nomination’s contributions to sustainability will be judged principally by the reduction in environmental impact over the past 5 years, or as projected based on sales forecasts, due to specified innovation in product, process, packaging, and/or service design.

“This award is extremely competitive and like previous years, we’re up against some very new innovations. The whole application process for the Sustainable Innovation Award with our R-M AGILIS line this year has required a massive investment of time and focus. Throughout our entry, we were required to detail aspects of how our innovation is relevant to our UK business, greatly emphasizing on how sustainability criteria such as reduction in energy usage; reduction in waste generation; and increased use of renewable raw materials is addressed, supported by case study and life cycle analysis data where possible,” says Natalie Wong, who headed this year’s UK nomination.

“The application and interview process also required us to outline how R-M AGILIS is innovative in sustainability terms, differentiating the impacts between those that affect the company; supplier base; customers; the local community; and communications on the importance of and commitment to sustainability in general. Other expectations such as the ultimate scale of benefits and its economic and social implications also formed part of the judging process. Our entry this year is incredibly in depth to say the least!”

The feedback from the judges of this award is that the standard this year was exceptionally high. Othershortlisted entries include Sun Chemical, Sherwin-Williams, AkzoNobel, Flint Group, and Crown Paints. This year’s Sustainable Innovation Awardwill be sponsored by Tronox and the winner will be announced at the upcoming Awards Ceremony on October 13, 2022 at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel and Country Club in Meriden. Best of luck to the UK Automotive Refinish team!
