Cryers Hill Coachworks profits with TopScan
Cryers Hill Coachworks in High Wycombe is the first bodyshop in the UK to
put R-M’s new TopScan program to the test. The company, which specializes in
the field of automotive refinishing, employs 22 staff. Bodyshop owner Brian
Hogg and his team were very satisfied with the results using the TopScan
program.
TopScan
is a computerized process based on the collection and analysis of information.
The aim of the program is to optimize operational processes to increase the
company’s overall performance. Step one in the process involves analyzing the
existing situation, concentrating on the bodyshop layout, workflow, positioning
of the prep areas, panel bays and spraybooths. Checks on health and safety, VOC
compliancy, the reception area and the products used with a view to both
current and future business are also carried out.
The
second step in the TopScan analysis involves determining capacity by means of a
simple question and answer process in which all the necessary information is
collected on, for example, staffing levels and the number of spraybooths.
A
multiple-choice form then assesses the knowledge of the technicians,
particularly the spray painters, in the following five areas: pre-treatment,
color matching, spray technique, refinish techniques and blending-in. The
questionnaires provide an accurate assessment of any training requirements
among the staff.
Once
the data has been entered and compressed in the TopScan program, potential
improvements can be identified, thereby increasing the company’s long-term
profitability.
Brian
Hogg’s comment on the program: " We were good before TopScan, but now we
are even better. In fact, as part of our ongoing plan for manufacturers’
approvals, Bentley Motors has asked for a copy of the TopScan report as a
perfect paintshop audit."
